The Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Gresik area East Java Customs and Excise Office confiscated 46,600 counterfeit cigarette packs and 423 bottles of illegal liquor in raids conducted from July to August, an official says.
The illicit cigarettes were seized from shipping companies and the illegal liquor from herbal vendors, customs office head Heri Wicaksono said, adding that the cigarettes were destined for Makassar, Manado and Banjarmasin.
“The raids were intended to give peace to Muslims during the Ramadan fasting month,” Heri said Tuesday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The crackdown prevented possible state losses of Rp 122 million (US$13,545), he added.
