A flash flood on Monday destroyed two bridges and sank another in Kalibaru district, Banyuwangi regency, East Java.
“The foundations of the two destroyed bridges were dragged away by the water. A waterway for a plantation turbine was also clogged by mud from the flood,” Hasan, a worker at state-run plantation PT Perkebunan Nusantara XII Kebun Jatirono, said Tuesday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Kalibaru Wetan resident Ali said that the government had not helped to repair the bridges. “We haven’t received assistance to remove the big rocks which caused the bridge to collapse,” he added.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Indonesian Military personnel on the scene managed to clear the waterway of mud while large debris, such as tree trucks, still clogged the area.
