Investigators at the Forest Protection and Nature Conservation at the Forestry Ministry have ordered Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng to surrender his villa built in Halimun Salak National Park in Bogor, West Java after Idul Fitri.
Director of Investigation and Forest Protection Awriya Ibrahim said on Tuesday Andi had violated the 1999 law on forest crimes for building the villa in a protected forest area. If convicted, Andi could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail.
“Facts and evidence we have collected are adequate. After Idul Fitri we will force him to heed our order,” Awriya told tempointeraktif.com.
Awriya regretted Andi for abusing power to defy the law.
“He knows he possesses an illegal villa, but he defies the law. This shows he is neither a statesman nor politician, but a three-wheel pedicab driver. He has set a bad precedent,” Awriya said.
