Travelers leaving Jakarta and other big cities to go to their hometowns to celebrate Idul Fitri have been asked to be more alert, as over the last five days 110 people have been killed in traffic accidents across Indonesia.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Iskandar Hasan said Wednesday that the majority of the traffic accidents was caused by recklessness on the part of the motorists.

“Up to last night, 110 people have been killed in traffic accidents,” Iskandar said as quoted by kompas.com.

He went on to say there would be no special arrangements to maintain security during the  Idul Fitri celebration, but that up to 81,031 police officers would been stationed at their respective posts.

Out of the 81,031 officers, 49,445 have been deployed in eight regions classified as top priority and the 31,586 others to 23 regions classified as second priority, he said.

In addition, the National Police have 1,119 other officers on high alert to deal with emergencies, he added.
