President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Wednesday he would swear in the new National Police chief and Attorney General together to mark a start to better coordination of the country’s law enforcement efforts.
“The inauguration of the new National Police chief and the Attorney General will take place simultaneously with a hope we can improve our efforts to enforce the law,” the president told a press conference after a breaking of the fast gathering with chief editors of national media at the State Palace.
He implied that he would propose a lone candidate for the National Police chief post to the House of Representatives, who he said would be the best and problem-free nominee. The name of the candidate will be submitted to the House after Idul Fitri.
“The House may reject the candidate, but I believe the House will approve the candidate as happened in the past,” Yudhoyono said. The president used to name one candidate for the police chief post.
As for the Attorney General candidate, Yudhoyono said he would select the nominee either from inside or outside the law enforcement agency.
