Police in the Jambi regency of Muarobungo foiled on Wednesday a robbery attempt, arrested all the three suspects and saved Rp 9 billion (US$10 million) cash belonging to a local cooperative.

Spokesman for the provincial police Adj. Sr. Comr. Almansyah said the police shot one of the suspects in his leg as he was trying to resist arrest and seized a home-made revolver from the gang of robbers.

The police identified the suspects as Dohar Radian Hutabarat, 37, Heri Arianto, 20, and Supardi alias Jojon, 24. Dohar is an employee of the cooperative.

The police suspected the three men had consumed crystal methamphetamine prior to the robbery attempt as the officers found a drug pipe during a search on the suspects.

Almansyah said the police had monitored the three men, who had trailed employees and the chief of Kuamang Kuning cooperative since they withdrew the money from a local office of state bank BNI. The suspects intercepted the victim on his way to the cooperative office, but the police were quick to bust them.

“The money would be distributed to 19 other cooperatives in the district,” Almansyah said as quoted by Antara news agency.

The cooperatives are partners of a palm oil plantation company PT SAL.
