Serbia's government says it has reached a compromise with the European Union over a resolution concerning Kosovo's declaration of independence that the Balkan nation will table at the UN's General Assembly.

Serbia has faced EU pressure not to challenge Kosovo independence and demand more status talks, after the UN's highest court ruled that Kosovo's 2008 move was legal.

It says the new document, to be presented on Thursday, will not recognize Kosovo's independence, and calls for dialogue.

The US and major EU powers are among over 70 countries that have recognized Kosovo's independence. Serbia, supported by Russia and China, maintains it will never accept the split.
