President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono conveyed Idul Fitri greetings to Muslims
across the country Thursday, calling on the nation to continue its development
toward prosperity.
“On behalf of the state, the government and on my own behalf, and in the spirit
of Ramadan, national unity, brotherhood and togetherness, I would like to wish
you a happy Idul Fitri. Minal aidin wal
faizin [may you be among those who have happy returns], and from the bottom
of my heart, I beg your forgiveness,” the President said during a mass prayer
at Istiqlal Mosque on the eve of Idul Fitri.
“Let’s carry on our worship as God’s followers. We continue our national
development toward a prosperous, advanced and dignified nation under the protection
of God.”
The President, accompanied by Vice President Boediono, Religious Affairs
Minister Suryadharma Ali, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo and House of
Representatives d Deputy Speaker Priyo Budi Santoso, beat the drum to mark the
start of the Idul Fitri eve ritual.
Thousands of people chanted the name of Allah as the President left the mosque.
