Attorney General wants career prosecutor as replacement

Attorney General Hendarman Supandji said Friday he hoped he would be succeeded by a career prosecutor.
“An insider would have undergone education as a state prosecutor,” he said as quoted by Kompas.com after visiting President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace for an Idul Fitri gathering.
Yudhoyono has been advised to appoint an outsider as the new attorney general, with many critics saying that the Attorney General Office needs a strong and fresh figure to lead the institution.
Former justice and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra declared Hendarman's position as head of the AGO as illegitimate after the institution named Yusril a suspect in a graft case.
Yusril alleged Hendarman was never approved by the President to run for a second term after Yudhoyono's first administration was dissolved in 2009.
