Six convicted terrorists were among 395 inmates serving in Kembang Kuning maximum security prison on Nusakambangan Island in Central Java who received remission in conjunction with Idul Fitri holiday on Friday.
Prison warden Herry Yunianto declined to identify the terrorists, who are serving between 6 and 18 years in prison terms. They are among 25 convicted terrorists who were relocated to Nusakambangan from Jakarta.
Previously prison wardens in Nusakambangan had proposed that 17 convicted terrorists be given remission, including Aris Widodo and Sikas Karim.
Herry said Aris and Sikas were serving their jail term in Kembang Kuning prison.
“The special remission has been awarded to the inmates since 2007, in accordance with a decree issued by the justice and human rights minister,” Herry said.
Nusakambangan is home to six prisons, including a special penitentiary for drug convicts. About 1,600 inmates are serving their jail terms there, 50 of them are on the death row.
