An Iranian has been arrested for attempting to smuggle 340 grams of methamphetamine into Indonesia through Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta airport, an official said on Saturday.
Head of the airport's customs and excise office Bahaduri Widjayanta said the attempted smuggling took place on Idul Fitri on Friday.
He said the Iranian was caught red-handed after a custom official expressed suspicion about his bag. The X-Ray monitor displayed a suspicious image inside the bag.
After a manual search of his bag, the official discovered white powder in its handler and upon testing it was confirmed as methamphetamine.
The Iranian said one of his Indonesian bosses had promised to give him US$300,000 for smuggling the drug.
