Idul Fitri traffic death toll hits 216

The traffic death toll from accidents on highways used by Idul Fitri revelers has reached 216, police said.

Police recorded a total of 1,013 accidents as of Saturday, National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Iskandar Hasan told kompas.com Sunday.

A total of 290 people were severely injured and 566 others were lightly injured in the accidents.

Last year 702 people were killed in road accidents during the holiday period.
