216 die in Idul Fitri road accidents

JAKARTA: National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Iskandar Hasan said 216 Idul Fitri travellers have been killed in more than 1,000 reported road accidents during the annual festivity.

Aside from the fatalities, another 290 people were injured in traffic accidents, Iskandar said.

“We keep warning people about driving safely during their journey,”he said.

A total of 1,936 crimes were reported across the country, Iskandar said, adding that most were “conventional” crimes, such as theft, fraud and burglary.

“In total, we have recorded Rp 3.8 billion in material losses from traffic accidents and crime during this year’s Idul Fitri holiday season,” he said.
