The National Police will announce two candidates for the force’s chief post after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono receives their names.
Spokesman for the National Police Brig. Gen. Iskandar Hasan said Monday the two candidates had been decided upon during an internal meeting of the National Police’s high-ranking promotion and duty rotation council.
“We will definitely announce the names,” Iskandar said as quoted by kompas.com.
The President will screen the two candidates together with the three names submitted by the National Police Commission and will propose a sole candidate to the House of Representatives to replace Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri, who will retire on Oct. 10.
“Whoever is elected the new police chief, all force members should support him. There should be no split or internal rift ahead of the election,” Iskandar said.
National Police general monitoring inspector Comr. Gen. Nanan Sukarna and National Police training institute head Insp. Gen. Imam Sudjarwo have been widely tipped as the strongest candidates for the police chief post. Imam will reportedly be promoted to a three-star general soon as part of the National Police’s restructuring.
