Five commissioners of the Gowa Election Commission (KPUD), South Sulawesi were sacked for violating the code of ethics and other regulations in the June 23 local election.
KPUD South Sulawesi chairman Jayadi Nas said Tuesday the dismissal was made following a recommendation from the KPUD honorary council.
The violations include declaring Ichsan Yasin Limpo as a legitimate candidate in the local election without prior verification of his degree diploma, which is allegedly fake, adding more ballot papers after previously destroying some of the papers.
However, the local election result, in which Ichsan and running mate Abdul Razak Badjidu won, remained valid, Jayadi said.
"Our decision is shock therapy, so that other commissioners do not dare breach regulations," he said.
