Former vice president Jusuf Kalla opened the twelfth annual meeting of South Sulawesi entrepreneurs from across the country in Makassar on Thursday.

Kalla said in his opening speech that entrepreneurs and farmers were important productive players in developed countries.

Chairman of the event’s organizing committee Solihin Kalla said 600 businesspeople, mostly from the Bugis ethnic group, traveled to the event from cities across the country and from overseas, including Malaysia, Australia and the Middle East.

The participants will be split into three groups that will cover the topics of transportation and industry, trade and service, and cultural affairs.

The annual meeting was initiated by South Sulawesi’s leading entrepreneurs Jusuf Kalla, Aksa Mahmud and Alwi Hamu.
