ARO, North Sumatra: The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG), announced on Tuesday that Mount Sinabung was still unsafe and asked residents to remain in their shelters.
The volcano has erupted five times since Aug. 29, with the strongest recorded on Sept. 7.
Sinabung was still showing high activity with the center recording a series of volcanic tremors. PVMBG chief Surono said.
“The alert status on Mount Sinabung has not been lifted yet. The refugees whose villages lie within six kilometers of the mountain should not return home because it is still dangerous,” he said.
Surono cautioned people against easily falling for rumors over possible eruptions in the future, saying that eruptions were unpredictable.
