The House of Representatives expects President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to submit the name of the National Police chief candidate by Thursday.
“Officially, the House has yet to receive the name of the police chief candidate from the government. We have been in contact with the state secretariat and the state secretary, and we expect the name to be submitted by Thursday. A further delay could disrupt the process to approve the candidate,” deputy House speaker Pramono Anung said on Monday.
The president will name a sole candidate for the police chief post to replace Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri who will retire on Oct. 10.
Two names who have been touted to succeed Bambang are National Police training institute head Comr. Gen. Imam Sujarwo and National Police general monitoring inspector Comr. Gen. Nanan Sukarna.
Pramono said the two officers had the capability and the capacity needed to become the new police chief.
“So the House, in particular the commission III [on Law and Human Rights], is obliged to examine their past track records,” Pramono said.
