One of three officers killed in a pre-dawn attack on Hamparan Perak police station in the North Sumatra regency of Deli Serdang died from 10 gunshot wounds.

National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Iskandar Hasan said Wednesday that Chief Brig. Riswandi, 38, was shot in his chest nine times and in his head once.

The other officers, First Adj. Insp. Baik Sinulingga, 48, and Second Adj. Insp. Tejo Sutejo, 38, died from four and one gunshot wounds respectively.

“All the bullets hit vital body parts,” Iskandar said as quoted by kompas.com.

Dozens of gunmen raided the police station, firing their semi-automatic rifles, such as AK-47, M-16 and SS1 early on Wednesday.

The police found at least 20 bullet shells in the crime scene. They are conducting ballistic tests to confirm if the weapons used in the attack were the same as those used in the CIMB Niaga bank robbery in Medan recently.

Investigators suspect the police station attackers have a link with a terror group held responsible for the bank robbery. On Sunday the police and counterterrorism squad raided several houses in a crackdown on suspected terrorists involved in the robbery, killing three of them.
