Issue: Female worker tortured, raped in Malaysia

S

em>Sept. 19, online: An female Indonesian domestic worker suffered serious injuries after being repeatedly tortured and raped by her Malaysian employers. The 26-year-old worker from Central Java said she worked for a couple in Penang, with the wife had often beating her, while the husband raped her repeatedly.  Her employers threw her out on Friday, before a pedestrian found her on the street and took her to a nearby police station, kompas.com reported. She has been treated at a Penang hospital.

Your comments:
Our government must take serious action regarding this incident, at least by giving Malaysia some shock therapy by sending all Indonesian workers home from their country.

Let the opposition say something about how clean your government is since you don’t let outsiders do anything, but somehow I get the feeling you need outsider interference to make it right.
Let them talk freely and call up an election. Don’t you see you have lost all by elections held so far?
Don’t you see people have spoken loud and clear?

I heard she was illegally placed in Malaysia by her agent. The agency bosses need to be questioned, since illegal placement is equal to human trafficking and they need to be prosecuted and put behind bars.
All need to be protected. But it is much more difficult to protect if legally no one (Indonesian and Malaysian authorities) knows she is in Malaysia. The criminal employers could easily take advantage of her since they knew she had no legal papers. I bet she was afraid to go out and run earlier because she knew she was illegal.

I cannot believe somebody would want to defend these cases. It’s beside the point that people come to other places for work, while it is a state’s responsibility to protect innocent human beings.
I am sure you don’t represent the masses (from Malaysia).

The Malaysian police have captured the cruel employer and his wife and like many cases, the law is very hard on these criminals!

As Lee Kuan Yew once told Deng Xiao Ping, “the Chinese in Southeast Asia are mostly descendants of farmers and coolies as opposed to those in HK and Taiwan with businessman lineage.”
He was totally right.

We all should remember that if a person commits a crime they do so by themselves not on behalf of their nation. Malaysia shouldn’t be held accountable for the crimes of a couple of its citizens.
I suspect this forum is being used by rabid nationalists on both sides to vent their frustrations.

Very sad and disturbing to see the number of people commenting on this story with racist and unjustified emotional claptrap. Read the reporting very carefully – it is straight factual reporting. Reference is made to police involvement. There is absolutely no factual reason why anyone should start racist or neighbor abuse.
This is a sad and terrible criminal case that must be investigated and if the alleged perpetrators are found guilty, the full force of the law should apply.
And the victim is treated with great compassion. We really should be much more responsible in our responses to media stories and not be wound up by provocateurs. Sad to see Indonesians being abusive of Malaysians and advocating ridiculous and provocative action by Indonesia. Time for some reflection and maturity.

I read with interest all the comments sent in on this subject. First of all, why must religion be brought into this, as well as ethnic groups, etc. Wake up ... this concerns the ill treatment of a human being. Let both governments take action ASAP. This matter has gone way too far. Let us respect and treat each other as humans and not animals.
