The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained Tomohon mayor Jefferson Soleiman Montesquie Rumajar on Wednesday to facilitate an investigation into his alleged role in misuse of regional budget in the North Sulawesi city between 2006 and 2008.

“Jefferson has allegedly allocated fictitious budget for social aid. Based on our interim findings, his action has caused Rp 16.3 billion in state losses,” KPK spokesman Johan Budi told The Jakarta Post.

He added that Jefferson would be charged under articles 2 and 3 of the Corruption Law.

Jefferson was sent to Cipinang Penitentiary to serve the detention for 20 days, which may be extended by another 20 days. (lnd)
