West Bromwich shock Arsenal with 3-2 win

A- A A+

West Bromwich has produced a brilliant second-half performance to shock Arsenal 3-2 in the Premier League at the Emirates stadium.

Nigerian forward Peter Odemwingie, Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara and former Arsenal man Jerome Thomas scored after the break for the visitors - who could even afford to miss a penalty on Saturday.

Arsenal launched a stirring late comeback from 3-0 down, Samir Nasri's double strike reducing the deficit and setting up a thrilling finish. But West Bromwich held on to inflict Arsenal's first defeat of the season.

The home side's 'keeper, Manuel Almunia, had conceded the first-half penalty by bringing down Odemwingie, but made amends by saving Chris Brunt's spot-kick.

Almunia, though, was at fault for West Bromwich's second strike, as he failed to handle Jara's straightforward shot.

Meanwhile, West Ham moved off the bottom of the Premier League standings with a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hospurs.

Frederic Piquionne scored the winner with a header in the 29th minute - his first goal for his new club - but the Hammers were also indebted to keeper Rob Green as they held on for their first league win of the campaign.
