Adm. Agus Suhartono to
be installed as new TNI
chief Tuesday

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to install Adm. Agus Suhartono as the new chief of the Indonesian Military (TNI) at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The presidential press bureau said Agus, who is currently the Navy chief of staff, will replace Gen Djoko Santoso, who is now retirement age, in a ceremony at 3 p.m.

The installation ceremony will be attended, among others, by TNI high-ranking officials, including Army chief of staff Gen. George Toisutta and Air Force chief of staff Marshal Imam Sufaat, Antara state news agency reported.

In a plenary session of the House of Representatives Monday, legislators unanimously agreed with the President’s proposal to promote Agus to be TNI’s new commander.
