Legislator accused of assaulting driver

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives’ ethics council plans to summon legislator Muhammad Nasir from the ruling Democratic Party for allegedly assaulting his driver.

“We are serious about following up the report although it involves a politician from the Democratic Party,” deputy chairman of the ethic council, Nudirman Munir, said. He said the maximum penalty for a criminal act was dismissal.

Nudirman was referring to the criminal complaint filed on Monday by Nasir’s driver, Fujio Nipponsori, with the Jakarta Metro Police and the National Commission on Human Rights. He lost four teeth in the attack.

The Democratic Party has reportedly planned to launch its own investigation into Fujio’s claim and will give the ethics council a free hand to take the necessary measures. — JP
