Organizers of the Q Film Festival have decided to continue the program and screen their movies in accordance with the schedule, despite a threat from hard-line Muslim group the Islam Defenders Front (FPI).
“The festival organizers have stated that the event will go ahead. The CCF as one of the hosts will also continue the program,” Centre Cultural Francais (CCF) spokesperson Atika Suri Fanani told kompas.com on Wednesday.
The annual event organizers canceled the screening of a film at the CCF, the Japan Foundation and the Kineforum at the Ismail Marzuki cultural center, all in Central Jakarta, following a protest from dozens of FPI members.
During a rally outside the Erasmus Huis in South Jakarta, the Islamic group gave the festival organizers 24 hours to stop the program as it screened movies that promote homosexuality.
Atika said CCF would screen a number of movies on Wednesday, including Kashish 2 at 5 p.m., and The World Unseen at 7.30 p.m.
The festival started on Wednesday last week and will last until Thursday.
