After three weeks of manhunt, the Bali Police have arrested two men suspected of robbing and murdering a female student who was the daughter of a Bangli regency administration official.
I Wayan Budi, alias Panjul, and Sugeng Hariyanto were nabbed in in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Tuesday for allegedly murdering 18-year-old Dewa Ayu Agung Diah Cahyani, a student of Denpasar’s School of Health Services, in her rented room in Denpasar on Sept. 7.
“Based on the evidence and witnesses’ testimonies, our investigation led to the two suspects,” Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Hadiatmoko told a press conference on Thursday.
The police said Wayan had sneaked into the victim’s house, and hid on her roof for about an hour before breaking into the room through a whole in the ceiling.
The suspect attacked the girl as she came out of her bathroom, gagging her and forced her to the kitchen where the attacker picked up a knife. The victim fought against her attacker but was repeatedly stabbed.
Both Panjul and Sugeng ran away with Dewa's laptop and cellular phone.
