President Susilo Bambang YUdhoyono has instructed police officers and soldiers to remain alert and prevent any violence to recur in Tarakan, East Kalimantan.

"We need them to prevent any violence that could spread everywhere," Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Thursday.

Julian said two battalions of the Indonesian Military had been deployed to Tarakan to handle the violence.

"Soldiers and police officers must coordinate to deal with the violence," he added.
