Fourteen students of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta and University of Indonesia (UI) have got scholarships from Lotte Mart through Lotte Foundation from South Korea.
The scholarships were given to the students from the two universities' school of Korean language and culture science for every semester, Lotte Mart said in a statement on Friday.
The scholarships for six UGM students were handed over by Lotte Foundation director Lee Keum Jae in Yogyakarta on Sept. 28, 2010, while those for eight UI students in Jakarta on Sept. 29. Each of the UGM and UI students gets US$370 and $600 per semester, respectively.
“The provision of the scholarships is intended to help create quality and competent work force in Indonesia,” President of Lotte Mart Indonesia Moon Young-Pyo said.
Lotte has wholly taken over Makro Cash & Carry in Indonesia since November 2008 and changed name of all 19 Makro shops into Lotte Mart Wholesale in May 2010.
