KPK questions ex-politician over BI vote buying scandal

A- A A+

Corruption Eradication Commission investigators questioned on Friday former United Development Party (PPP) politician Sofyan Usman in connection with the Bank Indonesia vote buying scandal.

"The questions concerned the House of Representatives structure, which consists of commissions, members and factions. They have not yet touched the substance," Sofyan told reporters after the questioning session.

He added that he did not know either businesswoman Nunun Nurbaeti or Arie Malangjudo, a middleman allegedly distributing bribes to legislators to support Miranda S. Goeltom as Bank Indonesia deputy senior governor in 2004.

"My party did not vote for Miranda," he said.

Nunun, the wife of Prosperous Justice Party lawmaker and former National Police deputy chief Adang Darajatun, is deemed as a key witness who may reveal the bribery practice. She has been staying in Singapore in the last few months, reportedly for a medical treatment to heal “severe forgetfulness”. (lnd)
