Police have named Argobromo Anggrek train machinist M. Halik Rudianto a suspect in connection with a train crash that killed 36 people in the Central Java town of Pemalang on Saturday.
“[Halik is accused of violating] the 2007 Train and Railway System Law as well as the criminal law for negligence that causes deaths or injuries,” Halik’s lawyer, Tugiman, said Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
However, Pemalang Police chief Adj. Comr. Sofyan Nugroho refused to comment on Halik’s status. Sofyan said he would wait for the Central Java Police chief’s order to officially announce any suspect in the accident.
Halik was in charge when the Argobromo Anggrek smashed into Senja Utama business train which was parking to make way for the executive train.
