Get ready for the new line

A- A A+

As the seasons rotate in the Northern Hemisphere, clothing labels and fashion boutiques are showcasing their Autumn/Winter collections.

Why wear dimly colored Autumn or Winter wool jackets and parkas in a tropical country like Indonesia? Well, why not? It could be that you’ve got it all wrong.

The UK’s Marks & Spencer and Spanish retailer Zara seem to understand what fashionistas really want. Instead of bringing the full frontal head-to-toe Autumn and Winter look, the two retailers offer a range of stylish ready-to-wear outfits for men, women and children.

Traditional knitted wear and woolen fabrics are still available, but are now frequently combined with lighter textiles, such as cotton.

These outfits are suitable for both temperate and warmer weather — especially given the prevailing rain and windy conditions in Jakarta.

Zara’s Autumn/Winter 2010 Ladies collection offers a grunge and denim British look. This collection looks like summer, but the black, white, red, warm beige and gray earthy tones colors are also suitable for winter.

The 1990s grunge movement is represented by long skirts, leather jackets and military-style khaki pants, which together are masculine, edgy and chic.

The Spanish clothing line also imaginatively embodies the wears of the traditional English countryside in a casual and feminine manner.

Vintage 1970’s retro styles are expressed in flower print dresses and tops. Mini skirts and shorts in gray and earthy hues, combined with shirts, vests and jackets are also remarkable items in Zara’s new collection.

Zara’s new line of men’s clothing is clean and simple, incorporating a range of business and casual choices. A number of blazers with different piping lapels are the collection’s classic British signature look.

Casual items include rock-a-fella outfits that couple 1950’s black and gray tapered denim street wear with Japan’s Harajuku leather jackets and boots. Printed T-shirts are also popular, especially when paired with a vest, cotton jacket and jeans.

Children’s wear consists of girls outfits complete with cape, a checkered or floral print dress and denim shirt, while boys can opt for various printed T-shirts, shirts and skinny and carrot trousers and jackets.
Marks & Spencer offers several stylish seasonal looks, such as faux furs, leather, velvet and lace, which can be worn together or on their own.

Faux fur options come in both luxury and flamboyantly fun styles. Mini sleeveless dresses, dominated by different shades of violet, come in varied mix-and-match cover-ups for the fashion lover who may not be so confident with her arms.

Preppy check and tweed shirts that convey a casual vibe match well with the new line of dresses and A-line skirts.

Mini-skirts or full A-line skirts teamed with knits and jackets can be dressed up or down. Other items to spice up the look include trapeze shorts, volume capes, mini kilts and skater skirts.

Military styling is also in vogue. The look not is entirely masculine, but instead displays a more feminine edge. Items include a bright red military coat with an epaulet detail on the collar rather than the shoulders.

Other pieces include an aviator jacket, a classic military-style jacket worn with pencil pants, a single-breasted jacket and maxi dresses.

The label also brings back the 1960s silhouette, which embodies style and sophistication in a beautiful gray knee-length shift dress.

For menswear, the label has checked shirts, knee-length khaki shorts, chino pants, jackets, blazers and a denim series.
