State Minister for State-Owned Enterprises Mustafa Abubakar has expressed his support for state pension company PT Jamsostek's recent move to acquire shares in PT Bank Negara Indonesia through a rights issue.

“The plan is good. They have allocated funds for the BNI rights issue,” Mustafa told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.

Jamsostek’s president director Hotbonar Sinaga said in Jakarta on Wednesday that his company had allocated about Rp 500 billion (US$56 million) to purchase BNI  shares, which would be offered later this year.

Mustafa said Jamsostek’s plan constituted a synergy between the state firms, and would bring many benefits for the two companies.

“This year Jamsostek can help BNI raise more capital, next year it will help Mandiri, if the company has the budget for it,”  Mustafa said.

BNI is scheduled to launch a Rp 10 trillion rights issue before the end of this year, and Mandiri has announced a Rp 14 trillion rights issue for next year.
