The death toll in Wasior flash flooding in West Papua reached 124, with 66 people still missing, the local administration said Saturday.

Eka Woysiri, a top official at Teluk Wondama regency told Tempointeraktif.com at 185 people have been treated for severe injury.

The flash flood that swept through Wasior on Tuesday was estimated to have killed more than one hundred people and injured hundreds of others. Offices, houses, schools and other public facilities were damaged by water, rocks and logs.

Heavy rains that poured in the region from Sunday to Monday caused the flood. It is believed that the fatalities likely drowned after being carried away by floodwaters from a nearby mountain lake.
