Heavy downpours since Saturday night around Kuala Kurun, Central Kalimantan, led to the overflowing of Kahayan river, sending rain to flood the area; at some places water reached a meter high.

“The floods have reached those who reside near the banks of the river. Some of them have evacuated themselves to relatives’ houses on the higher land,” rresident Hariyadi said Sunday as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.

In a separate place, Central Kalimantan Governor Agustin Teras Narang said that he had sent a team from local social services office to help the victims and monitor the height of the floodwater.

“We suggest the resident to remain alert because the weather is still unpredictable,” said Agustin.
