Either because of superstition or symbolism, some people choose to tie the knot on the special date of Oct. 10, 2010, while some attempt to give birth. October not only carries the auspicious date of 10-10-10, but also has special “fives”: five Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“People look for auspicious dates such as 10-10-10, believing it would be sweet and memorable,” Vannya Gita Alamanda, from online wedding and honeymoon forum weddingku.com, said recently.
Wedding halls that host from the most glamorous fairytale wedding to modest wedding receptions are fully booked Sunday.
Vannya said it took a year to reserve a wedding on that date. “Demand was actually higher because that date also falls on Sunday.”
One of the couples getting married on the special “triple 10” is Richi Andika Prima, 27, and Dian Ayuningtyas.
“We chose the date because it is auspicious. We want a perfect 10 wedding. I hope it triples our happiness,” Richi said Saturday. “It is also easy to memorize. There’s no way I will forget my wedding date.”
The couple will host their wedding at the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) building on Jl. Gatot Subroto in South Jakarta because it was the only building available on that date.
“Last year, we decided we would get married in November. We’re lucky my brother works at the BPK so we could book the place for Oct. 10,” he said, adding that the building was not a common wedding venue.
Richi said building managers charged more for Oct. 10 wedding ceremonies. “Many caterers, photographers and videographers, decorators, entertainers and hosts also increased their fees for that date.”
Annisa Triana, 27, planned to hold her wedding on Oct. 10. However, she had to settle for a ceremony at her home in Karawaci, Tangerang, because no wedding halls in Jakarta were available on the date.
She claimed people had made bookings for the date since 2008.
“I want my marriage and the wedding to be as perfect as the number 10,” she said.
Esti from the Brawijaya Women’s and Children’s Hospital in South Jakarta said that some women were scheduled to give birth on the special date, some via caesarian, and others naturally.
“They’re pushing to give birth on that date because it’s special,” she said, adding that the hospital would also give gifts those who went into labor on that day. (ipa)
