AGO undecided on Bibit-Chandra case

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has not decided if it will forward to trial a criminal case implicating a pair of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies, or stop it for the sake of social stability.

The deputies, Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah, risk facing trial after the Supreme Court overturned an AGO appeal that would have halted prosecution.

"Our options are to forward the case to trial or to end it," said AGO spokesperson Babul Khoir Harahap.

He added that prosecutors had yet to decide because they were still waiting to receive a copy of the Supreme Court's decision.

"How can we make a decision if we do not know the exact content of the Supreme Court's ruling?" he said, adding that it was not likely they would issue another prosecution cessation order.

According to Babul, interim Attorney General Darmono has the authority to issue a cessation order. (gzl)
