DENPASAR: The Bali provincial administration will plant 500,000 bamboo trees along riverbeds and in water catchment areas as part of the province’s go-green campaign.

A.A. Alit Sastrawan, head of the Bali Environmental Agency, told reporters the effort was aimed at restoring and rehabilitating areas whose environments were in critical condition.

“This is real action to realize our campaign to create a green province,” Sastrawan said.

Bamboo trees are highly adaptable and can survive in many climates and soil types, he said. “They do not require intensive maintenance.” — JP
