The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has banned former home minister Hari Sabarno, a suspect in a corruption case linked to the procurement of fire trucks, from traveling abroad.
KPK spokesman Johan Budi told reporters Monday that the ban order had been submitted to the Immigration Directorate General on Wednesday.
Hari allegedly stole state money during his tenure between 2002 and 2005.
The theft, which came in the form of price markups and profit sharing, cost the state an estimated Rp 86 billion (US$9 million).
Hari, a former army general who once chaired the military and police factions at the legislature, remains free, but his alleged partner in the crime, businessman Hengky Samuel Daud, was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Corruption Court last February.
Under the Indonesian corruption law, Hari could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
