Members of former Team 8 met with the team of lawyers of Corruption Eradication Commission deputy chairmen Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah on Tuesday to seek information and analyze the latest situation.

“We respect the due process of law and want to ensure that the supremacy of law is upheld,” Anies Baswedan, one of the team members, said in a press conference at the anti-graft commission office.

He added that the team would also propose a recommendation to the Attorney General’s Office for an additional investigation due to the recent Supreme Court’s ruling, which overturned a case review to halt the legal process against Bibit and Chandra.

“From the beginning, we did not find enough evidence to bring the case to court, and acknowledge that there was fabrication in the case. The overturning must be further processed,” Anies said.

Bibit and Chandra will likely stand trial on criminal charges after the Supreme Court's decision.

The Attorney General’s Office earlier filed a case review on the overturning of their letter to cease the prosecution (SKPP) by both the South Jakarta District Court and the Jakarta High Court.

The AGO filed the cessation letter to halt the deputies’ pretrial process, which was requested by businessman Anggodo Widjojo, who accused the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies of abuse of power and of blackmailing his brother, graft suspect Anggoro Widjojo.

Team 8 was a special investigation team formed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in response to allegation of case engineering in Bibit and Chandra. (lnd)
