Panda Nababan, a legislator from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), filed a complaint to the Judicial Commission against several Corruption Court judges on Wednesday.
In May of this year, the judges handed down a two-year prison term and Rp 100 million (US$ 11,201) fine on former PDI-P legislator Dudhie Makmun Murod, who was found guilty of distributing checks to PDI-P legislators and of accepting Rp 500 million in bribes linked to the selection of Miranda Swaray Goeltom as Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor in 2004.
Panda objected to charges brought against him based on testimony at Dudhie’s trial that he had accepted a Rp 500 million bribe.
“It is clear that the judges have misinterpreted a number of the facts presented in court,” Panda told reporters at the commission’s office.
The judges named in the complaint were Nani Indrawati, Herdi Agustin, H. Acmad Linoh, Slamet Subagio and Sofialdi.
Panda was among 26 suspects named by the Conrruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Sept. 1 in connection with the vote-buying scandal.
Panda said his incentive in filing the complaint was a letter he received from the KPK last month, which mentioned that the investigation of suspects had evolved from evidence presented at Dudhie’s trial. (lnd)
