Govt endorse 300,000-ton rice import

The government has issud a permit for the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to import 300,000 tons of rice in October, Deputy Trade Minister Mahendra Siregar.

Mahendra said that Bulog would import more rice, but refused to divulge how much and when.

He said that the imports were aimed to secure government rice stock, explaining that the government needs 1.5 million tons of rice in stock to keep rice price stable.

Soetarte, Bulog chief, said earlier this month that the rice would likely be imported from Thailand and Vietnam.
