JP/R. BERTHO WEDHATAMAJP/R. BERTHO WEDHATAMA JAKARTA: Songwriter-cum-singer Maia Estianty will be paying homage to the late Nike Ardilla by covering her hit song Bintang Kehidupan (the life star) in her new album.

“I’m now in the process of making my new album. I prefer to ‘recycle’ songs from great musicians than recycling my old songs,” said the 34-year-old singer, as quoted by detikhot.com on Monday.

Nike, 19, died driving her car into a fence in Bandung in 1995, when she was still at the top of her singing career.

Beside Nike’s hit song, Maia said her album would also feature 1980s and 1990s tunes, such as Terserah Boy (Up to you boy) sung by Atiek CB, and Berdiri Bulu Romaku (I got chilling) by Hetty Koes Endang.

She said she wanted to introduce old pop songs to the younger generations. — JP
