Letter: Torture hurts everyone

The duty of the Indonesian military is to protect the whole of Indonesia — not only the territory, but also the people who live in it.

I realize that the duty of the military is very heavy, but it should not ignore human rights, as we have seen in the video that was distributed on the Internet.

These acts only damage the credibility of the Indonesian Military (TNI), particularly in the eyes of the people of Papua. Due to a few soldiers, the name of the entire military has been damaged.

The torture video, if genuine, hurt Papuans and all Indonesians.
