Interim Attorney General Darmono rejected a statement made by Junior Attorney General for special crimes Muhammad Amari, who said that the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) had decided to suspend a case involving two deputy chiefs from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“I have warned him [about the statement]. He apologized, saying that he misspoke,” Darmono said Monday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

“We have not made any decisions about the case yet,” he added.

Amari earlier said that the AGO had decided to ask the legislature to order a halt to the case in the interests of preserving the peace, known as deponeering.

Bribery convict Anggodo Widjojo has accused KPK deputies Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah of abuse of power and blackmail they allegedly committed during an investigation of his fugitive brother, graft suspect Anggoro Widjojo.

Facing public pressure to defend the embattled pair, the AGO issued a prosecution cessation letter to several courts, effectively terminating their trial. The letter was twice overturned by lower courts, and recently the Supreme Court rejected a review of the lower courts’ rulings.
