he schedule for Austrian President Heinz Fischer’s visit will likely conflict with that of United States President Barack Obama, since both state leaders have plans to meet Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono next month.

Fischer, together with his wife, were scheduled to pay a state visit to Indonesia from Nov. 9 to 11 and meet Yudhoyono, the Austrian Embassy announced on Monday in a press statement.

“He will be accompanied by several Cabinet members, a sizeable business delegation and representatives of academia,” it said.

However, Obama may also visit Indonesia from Nov. 9 to 10, likely after visiting India, as part of an official trip that will also include a visit to Seoul for a G20 Summit (from Nov. 11-12) and to Yokohama, Japan, for an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting (Nov. 13-14).

Both Indonesian presidential spokesman Teuku Faizasyah and Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Kusuma Habir confirmed Fischer’s planned visit, but were unable to provide further details on either Fischer’s agenda or on the possibility of conflicting schedules.

“We also have yet to confirm dates for US President Obama,” Habir said.

“If both leaders happen to arrive here at the same time, everything will be arranged there are no conflicts in scheduled meetings with President Yudhoyono.”

Foreign Ministry director general for American and European affairs Retno P. Marsudi said the Austrian and Indonesian Presidents would discuss the improvement of bilateral relations, in addition to regional and international affairs. “We are still working on some documents that need to be completed,” she said, without providing further details.

Neither did she reply to The Jakarta Post’s questions on the possibility of conflicting schedules between Fischer and Obama, or whether there would be any signing of agreements between Indonesia and Austria.
