Pope seeks aid for Indonesia, Benin disasters

Pope Benedict XXI has appealed to the international community to quickly provide disaster relief following an earthquake and killer tsunami in Indonesia and deadly flooding in the West African nation of Benin.

Benedict assured the people of Asia and Africa during his weekly public audience Wednesday that he was praying for them.

He urged global donors to provide the necessary relief aid to "alleviate the suffering from these ravages."
