State banks help natural disaster victims

AKARTA: State banks have prepared cash to be distributed to victims of the Mentawai tsunami, the Mount Merapi eruption and Wasior flash flood, officials said Wednesday.

BNI has allocated a total of Rp 1.63 trillion, the lender said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post. According to the statement, Rp 625 million has been distributed to Wasior, Rp 500 million to Mentawai and the remaining Rp 500 million to Merapi.

Meanwhile, Bank Mandiri, said it had allocated about Rp 500 million for Wasior flash flood victims and was still evaluating the amount for Mentawai and Mount Merapi victims. — JP/est
