Traffic eases after student rally ends in Central Jakarta

Traffic eased on Jl. Diponegoro and in surrounding areas in Central Jakarta after rallying students ended a protest that had blocked roads in the area until early evening.

The students set up a stage and burned tires in the middle of the road in protest of the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono.

The students attempted to provoke police officers dispatched to contain the rally, Kompas.com reported but did not offer details.

This month a demonstrator received a bullet wound to the leg, allegedly a ricochet, during a protest at the same location when police officers armed with pistols fired warning shots to break up the rally.
