Former police advisor Sjahril Djohan confirmed Thursday his role as a case broker in a fish breeding ownership dispute which involved former National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji.

In his testimony heard in the trial of Susno at the South Jakarta District Court, Sjahril said he used to help people avoid police’s investigations.

“It has become a habit. People used to come to me and asked me to help them settle their cases,” Sjahril told the court as quoted by kompas.com.

Sjahril was sentenced to 18 months for bribing Susno in exchange for a decision to change the civil case involving fish breeder PT Salmah Arowana Lestari (SAL) into a criminal case.

When asked by Judge Haswandi how long he had been involved in the case brokerage business, Sjahril said the fish breeding dispute was his first experience as a case broker.

But later on Sjahril said he had often helped people involved in drug-related crimes negotiate with prosecutors when he was an advisor to the National Police anti-drug unit.
