City to fall 3 busway corridors short of target

JAKARTA: Governor Fauzi Bowo says his administration will fall three TransJakarta busway corridors short of its target of having 15 operational corridors by the end of 2012.

Fauzi said it would be difficult to build bus lanes for the remaining three corridors because of heavy traffic congestion.

The three corridors are corridor 13 connecting Ciledug and Blok M in South Jakarta, corridor 14 connecting Kalimalang in East Jakarta and Blok M and corridor 15 connecting Depok and Manggarai in Central Jakarta.

A solution to the problem, Fauzi said, would be to construct new elevated roads in some areas and to run the bus corridors on those.

“Our 2011 city budget cannot afford them [the bus lanes],” he said.

The city currently has eight completed TransJakarta bus corridors. Corridors 9 and 10 are expected to be complete by the end of this year. — JP
